What types of damages are common in car accident lawsuit?

On Behalf of | Aug 4, 2022 | Motor Vehicle Accidents |

Car accidents are so common in Georgia and throughout the country that most of us are used to seeing the aftermath of even the most serious of accidents by the side of the road. It can be easy to forget that each of those collisions may result in serious injuries to the people involved. If you were injured in a car accident in Georgia, you may be able to pursue a lawsuit to attempt to recover compensation for your damages. But what types of damages might you be able to attempt to recover?

In most car accident cases, the damages in question are typically compensatory damages. This means that the financial recovery that the victim is attempting to gain from the party at fault for the accident is meant to “compensate” the victim for the losses that resulted from the accident.

For example, medical bills are the most common – and often largest – piece of the compensation puzzle in a car accident lawsuit. With serious injuries, victims may face weeks, months or even years of medical treatment, rehabilitation and attempts to recover full health. That can, obviously, be quite expensive. Lost wages are also common, and so are damages to the vehicles involved.
